World Tourism Day : salkanpur temple is 400 years old

Bhopal, India : There is a temple of Vijayasan Devi on the beautiful hill of Vindhya in Rehti of Sehore district. It is famous by the name of SALKANPUR TEMPLE. Although devotees come here throughout the year, but on Navratri (NAVRATRI) the beauty of the temple is unique. This is the Shakti Peetha of faith and devotion.

400 year old temple

The mother’s temple is at a height of about 4 thousand feet. This statue of Vijayasan Devi is considered to be about 4 hundred years old and self-existent. It is a mythological belief that the goddess, in the form of Mahishasurmardini incarnation of Durga, had won victory at this place by killing the demon named Raktabeej. Then, for the welfare of the world, he did penance sitting at this very place in a victorious posture. That’s why she was called Vijayasana Devi.

52nd Shaktipeeth

Salkanpur temple is considered to be the 52nd Shakti Peeth of faith and reverence. To reach the temple, devotees have to climb 1 thousand 451 stairs made of stone. However, now the Salkanpur Devi Temple Trust has also built a road here on the hill. Throughout the year, devotees from far and wide including Bhopal, Itarsi, Hoshangabad, Pipariya, Sohagpur, Betul come here in groups on foot singing and playing.


History of the temple


According to Mahant Prabhudayal Sharma of the temple, the idol of the goddess installed in this four hundred year old temple is hundreds of years old. It is believed that Mother Durga in the form of Mahishasurmardini killed the demon named Raktabeej at this place and performed penance here in a victorious posture. That’s why she was called Vijayasana Devi. Two unbroken lamps have been burning in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple for almost 400 years. One is burnt with coconut oil and the other with ghee. These real estates are worshiped in the form of real goddess. Dhuni is also burning in the temple. This dhuni was lit by Swami Bhadranand and his disciples. Since then only the ashes of this unbroken Dhuni are given as Mahaprasad.

It is being developed in accordance with the religious concept. Under this, along with tourist facilities, various forms of Goddess Vindhyavasini will be depicted by creating separate infrastructures. All the works will be beautified with stones from the heritage and religious point of view.

Chausath Yogini Plaza


64 Yogini Plaza will be constructed circular in Devi Lok. In which different dimensions of 64 Yoginis will be displayed in the form of murals. This idea of displaying different forms of the Goddess has been taken from Bhedaghat in Madhya Pradesh and Hirapur in Orissa.

Navadurga Corridor


Before reaching the temple, nine forms of Mata Vijayasan Devi will be displayed through separate murals.

Other features of Devi Lok


Sapta Matrika will be displayed through statues and mural art near the main entrance of the temple. Tableaus of Maa Kali, Tara, Chhinnamasta, Sundari, Bagula Matangi, Bhuneshwari, Siddha Vidya, Bhairavi and Dhumavati will be displayed in the form of statues and mural art on the Mahavidya theme on the terrace of the waiting hall. The main gate of Mata Vijayasan temple will be beautified with red stones and decorated with various shloka murals and signs of Maa Durga. A fountain of light will be built near the entrance. There will be a beautiful park and all necessary facilities for the tourists to relax.

At the beginning of the staircase, a place is being created as a devotional path between the entrance gate and the lake, in which various facilities will be developed for the devotees, apart from this, electrification, illumination and CCTV system will also be installed for security.
