An Environment of Peace and Harmony is Necessary for Development: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot

Jaipur : Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that peace and non-violence is the basis of our culture. Mutual love, harmony and brotherhood can be maintained in the society only by peace and non-violence. He said that development is not possible in the atmosphere of unrest, violence and tension. There are examples of many countries in the world where violence has posed a threat to the entire humanity. He said that the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi fought a long struggle to get freedom for the country on the basis of truth, peace, non-violence and Satyagraha. Gehlot also mentioned the efforts of former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi in establishing peace in the Indian subcontinent and said that he sacrificed his life for peace and development.

Gehlot was addressing the inaugural function of the offices of the peace and non-violence cell in all the districts from his official residence through VC on Sunday. Paying tribute to former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary, the chief minister said that the martyrdom of late Rajiv Gandhi is observed as Anti-Terrorism Day. This inspires the people of the country to protect the country from all kinds of threats. On this occasion, he administered an oath to oppose violence and maintain mutual harmony.

The Chief Minister said that Rajasthan is the only state in the country where the Peace and Non-Violence Department has been set up. Along with this, the department has also trained the people in this regard at the block level. He said that Gandhi Museum being built in Jaipur will be a special museum of its kind, in which people will get an opportunity to know about the life of Mahatma Gandhi and his works. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister unveiled the statue made of panchdhatu (mix of five metals) at the office of the district collector in Pali. 

Peace and Non-Violence Department is unique initiative by the state government

The Chief Minister said that the state government in 2022 set up this department. The objective of this department was to develop the spirit of peace and non-violence in villages and hamlets, and in each resident of the state. He said that training camps based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi are organized through the department at the state, division and district level. Thousands of youth in remote villages through these training camps are imbibing the life ideals of Mahatma Gandhi along with the importance of peace and non-violence.

Rajasthan leading in e-governance based on Rajiv Gandhi’s IT vision

Gehlot said that Rajiv Gandhi knew the importance of IT. He laid the strong foundation of IT in the country because of which today youth of our country have a special recognition in the field of IT in the entire world. He said that youth leader Rajiv Gandhi gave the new vision to the country and based on that vision, today people of Rajasthan are getting maximum services of the public sector at a fast pace through e-governance. The State Government through e-governance has demonstrated better work efficiency, transparent management and good governance.

The Chief Minister said that Rajiv Gandhi is the ideal of our youth power. He became the Prime Minister at the age of 42 years when the country was passing through the crisis of terrorism and separatism. He said that Rajiv Gandhi much before the 21st century had envisioned to take our country ahead of other countries with a new vision. Today we are seeing it being realized. The Telecommunication Mission was introduced in the country based on the vision of Rajiv Gandhi and on that basis, the Information and Technology revolution started in the country.

Mrinal Pandey said that the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi taught to counteract evil by peace and non-violence through public participation. Late Rajiv Gandhi giving 33% reservation to women in Panchayati Raj strengthened the public participation in the democracy. Peace and Non-Violence Department director Shri Manish Sharma said that programmes are being carried out on an extensive level by the directorate in all the areas of the state to publicize Gandhi Darshan. The general public is being linked with the Gandhian thoughts through Gandhi Darshan training camps. Shri Satish Roy said that the department has trained more than 5000 people in Gandhi Darshan. Prof. B.M. Sharma said that it is possible to set up an ideal society with non-violence and brotherhood vested in Gandhian philosophy.

Director General of Police Shri Umesh Mishra said that Mahatma Gandhi’s ideas of non-violence are relevant even today in the society. On this occasion, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Tikaram Jully, former Minister of State for Education Shri Govind Dotasara, Former deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Shri Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Chief Secretary Smt Usha Sharma, Peace and Non-Violence department secretary Shri Naresh Thakral, Gandhian Thinker Shri Kumar Prashant, Shri GS Bafna, Shri Dharamveer Kateva, all divisional commissioners and district collectors attended the programme.
