Asian Games 2023: Indian sailing players made a great start in the Asian Games on Sunday, winning two silver and one bronze medal.
This morning, Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh opened India’s account by winning the silver medal in the men’s lightweight double scull event.
Indian pair finished second
The Indian pair finished second with a timing of 6:28.18 seconds. China’s Junjie Fan and Man Sun won the gold medal with a timing of 6:23.16 seconds. Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Nurmatov and Sobirjon Safroliev won the bronze medal.
There was a tough competition between India and China in the men’s coxed event in which the Indian team finished second with a timing of 5:43.01 seconds.
China won the gold medal by winning by 2.84 seconds. The Indian team included Neeraj, Naresh Kalwania, Nitish Kumar, Charanjit Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Bhim Singh, Puneet Kumar and Ashish.
‘Our aim was to challenge the main teams’
Dhananjay Uttam Pandey, who plays the role of ‘coxway’ in the team, said, “It was a great race for us. It happened according to the plan we worked on yesterday with our coaches and teammates.”
Indonesia got the bronze medal. Teams from sailing giants like Japan and Uzbekistan finished fifth and fourth respectively. He said, “Our aim was to challenge China for victory by putting pressure on the main teams like Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Japan.”
The team is of 33 sailing players
Nitish, his teammate in the Indian team, said, “We have been training together since 2019. We have all participated in camps together. We still have to challenge in more competitions. We will celebrate together only after that.
In the coxless pair, India’s Babulal Yadav and Lekh Ram got the bronze medal with a timing of 6:50.41 seconds. Hong Kong, China won the gold medal and Uzbekistan won the silver medal. India has sent a 33-member contingent in sailing. India has sent a large team of 33 sailing players to these games.
