Admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas is primarily offered to children from rural areas. At least 75% of the seats are reserved for students from rural areas. Seats are also reserved for students from SC & ST communities in proportion to their population in the district, but not less than the national average. In addition to this, 27% reservation is provided to OBC students, over and above the reservation of SCs and STs.
Female students fill one-third of the seats. Also, 3% of the seats are reserved for disabled children. Navodaya Vidyalayas are schools affiliated with CBSE and provide free residential education to talented children from Class VI to XII. These schools are co-educational and provide students free boarding and lodging, school uniforms, textbooks, stationery, and rail/bus fare.

- The JNVST Class 6 Entrance Test will be conducted offline.
- There will be three sections in the exam.
- To get qualified, students must pass all three sections individually.
- In the test, 80 multiple-choice objective-type questions will be asked.
- For each correct answer, 1.25 marks will be given.
- There will be no negative marking for incorrect or unmarked answers.
- The duration of this entrance test will be 120 minutes.
- To provide equal opportunities to Divyang students, they will be given 30 minutes to complete their exams.
